Jaguar's "Type 00" GT: A Brand Reborn

Jaguar has finally unveiled the production specifications for the car that will determine its survival: the Type 00 GT. After a controversial rebranding period that saw the company temporarily stop selling new cars in the UK, the Type 00 marks Jaguar's transition into an ultra-luxury, EV-only brand.

This four-door grand tourer is designed to compete not with Audi or BMW, but with Bentley and Porsche.

The Type 00 is a "monolithic" design statement, boasting a three-motor setup that produces a staggering 1,000bhp. It features rear-wheel steering, air suspension, and a bespoke "Jaguar Electric Architecture" (JEA) that allows for 430 miles of range. Inside, the cabin is a radical departure from tradition, shunning leather for sustainable textiles and featuring a centre console made of Travertine stone.

With a starting price of roughly £120,000, Jaguar is intentionally moving upmarket to chase higher profit margins on lower volumes. The "Type 00" name is a nod to its status as a total reset—the "Year Zero" for the brand. While the avant-garde styling has divided critics, Jaguar reports that over 200,000 people engaged with the concept version at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, suggesting that the brand's "bold or nothing" strategy is at least capturing the public's attention.
