Volkswagen is finally ready to answer the most frequent question in the EV world: "When can I buy a Golf-sized electric car for under £25,000?" Today, VW confirmed the UK arrival of the ID. Polo, a car designed to recapture the spirit of the "People's Car" for the zero-emission era. With a starting price confirmed at £22,950, it is the most affordable electric Volkswagen ever produced.
The ID. Polo (official name ID.2all in concept form) features a 56kWh battery and a range of 280 miles. What makes it notable is its traditional interior design—VW has moved away from the controversial touch-sensitive sliders of the ID.3 and returned to physical buttons on the steering wheel and a classic rotary volume knob. This shift is a direct response to customer feedback and marks a "return to quality" for the brand.
Positioned to compete with the MG4 and the incoming Renault 5, the ID. Polo represents Volkswagen's frontline defense against the influx of Chinese EVs. By leveraging its "MEB Entry" platform, VW is betting that brand loyalty and a robust UK dealer network will be enough to win back buyers who have been tempted by cheaper, lesser-known alternatives.
